This role offers continuous learning across on‑premises relational platforms, cloud‑hosted database services, and automation tools, all while maintaining strict data protection and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities
Perform routine health checks on database instances and escalate anomalies.
Execute maintenance tasks such as index rebuilds, statistics updates, and consistency checks.
Monitor and validate backup jobs and restore testing for data integrity.
Assist with disaster recovery and high‑availability configurations.
Analyse performance metrics, identify long‑running queries, and support optimisation.
Manage user accounts and permissions according to least‑privilege principles.
Support audit and compliance processes, ensuring adherence to data protection legislation.
Respond to service desk tickets and provide first‑ and second‑line support.
Prepare and implement change requests in test and production environments.
Develop automation scripts to streamline repetitive tasks.
Maintain documentation, runbooks, and configuration registers.

Qualifications – Essential:
National Diploma or recognised IT qualification (NQF level).
1–2 years’ experience in IT support, data, or database‑related roles (internships considered).
Practical exposure to at least one relational database platform (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Advantageous:
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP‑300).
Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) – Database Administration.
AWS Certified Database – Specialty.
ITIL Foundation.
Exposure to cloud database services (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL) or NoSQL platforms (MongoDB, Redis).
